On July 12, local time, COSCO SHIPPING Lines successfully launched the CHX3 feeder service (Chancay Express Service 3), launching the first regular weekly service connecting the three ports of Paita and Chancay in Peru, and Caldera in Costa Rica.

This feeder service represents a new initiative by COSCO SHIPPING to deepen its presence along the West Coast of South America. Utilizing Chancay Port as a core transshipment hub, it strengthens foreign trade connectivity between Peru and Costa Rica. Paita Port serves as a key container and cold chain distribution hub in northern Peru, covering key industrial regions including Piura, Lambayeque, and Cajamarca, and hosts a large number of export-oriented enterprises involved in agricultural products, aquatic processing, minerals, and textiles.

With the launch of the CHX3 feeder service, local cargo can be transported directly from Paita Port to Chancay Port for seamless connection to the ocean mainlines bound for Asia. This streamlined and efficient transshipment route significantly shortens logistics transit time, while reducing comprehensive costs including land transportation, warehousing, and container demurrage, precisely catering to the export needs of fresh cold chain goods such as avocados, grapes, and aquatic products.

Peruvian fruit exporter Ecosac stated that this feeder service, which sails directly to the Chancay hub and connects with trans-Pacific ocean mainlines, will effectively compress the total transportation cycle for fresh fruits, reduce the risk of cargo damage, and save on multi-stage transhipment costs, further widening the export corridor for fresh fruits to the Asian market.

Luis Felipe Turbides, Deputy General Manager of the TPE Terminal at Paita Port, also noted that this feeder service allows for the stable absorption of incremental refrigerated container cargo, fully utilizes existing cold chain support facilities, and effectively improves the operational turnover efficiency of the terminal.

For Costa Rica, the new feeder service also brings significant benefits. Cargo from Caldera Port can now switch to this new transhipment chain, resulting in a substantial reduction in overall logistics time and a leapfrog improvement in delivery certainty and customer service quality.

Since the commencement of operations nearly two years ago, Chancay Port has achieved a total import and export value of 3.65 billion USD, with container throughput exceeding 500,000 TEU, generating over 1.64 billion Peruvian Soles in tax revenue for the local economy. Chancay Port has currently opened three trans-Pacific mainlines connecting to Asia and five regional feeder services covering multiple countries along the West Coast of South America.
