On 10 August, Captain Panda, the mascot of COSCO SHIPPING, embarked on a conservation mission for China’s national treasure in Ya'an, Sichuan Province. Captain Panda delivered wooden ship-shaped environmental enrichment items for his giant panda buddies to climb and play on, as well as customized containers for daily material storage to the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP).
During the ceremony, COSCO SHIPPING teamed up with CCRCGP to launch the public welfare programme Captain Panda: Protect Our Homeland. Both parties stated that they will take this event as a new starting point to carry out further and in-depth cooperation on giant panda conservation and research. The two sides will jointly develop systematic public welfare projects for giant panda protection, draw up a long-term conservation blueprint, and contribute to China’s biodiversity conservation and ecological civilization advancement.

All the supplies provided by COSCO SHIPPING departed from Shanghai and traveled across mountains to the panda base. The customized large containers will be placed at the center’s three bases. General containers will serve as staff rest areas and warehouses, while refrigerated containers will store bamboo, bamboo shoots and other staple food for the giant pandas. Notably, the ship-shaped enrichment items are modeled after the world’s state-of-the-art 24,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container vessel. Professional shipbuilding engineers completed 3D modeling via professional ship design software and adopted CNC machine tools and laser cutting technology for precision processing, ensuring accurate dimensions of all components.

Committed to ecological protection, COSCO SHIPPING integrates green and sustainable development concepts into its global operations. It continuously advances the green and low-carbon transformation of the shipping industry and actively fulfills its ecological and social responsibilities.
