COSCO SHIPPING Hosts Corporate Social Responsibility Launch Event in Beijing

2026-08-28

On August 26, COSCO SHIPPING held its Corporate Social Responsibility Launch Event at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. The Group officially unveiled its corporate social responsibility brand “Sailing Together” and sustainability reporting system to the public. At the conference, it also jointly launched the “Captain Panda: Guardian of Homeland” public welfare initiative with the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda.

The period from 2016 to 2026 marks a decade of reorganization and integration for COSCO SHIPPING, characterized by leapfrog development. It is also a decade during which the company has deeply integrated sustainable development and social responsibility into its top-level strategy and embedded them into the entire chain of production and operation. Adhering to modern central enterprise governance standards, COSCO SHIPPING has refined its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management system and established a long-term mechanism for social responsibility. The company has continuously fulfilled its sustainable development mission in areas such as securing global supply chain resilience, green transformation of shipping, rural revitalization, and international public welfare cooperation, yielding fruitful practical results.

Unveiling the “Sailing Together” Responsibility Brand

Inheriting the corporate spirit of “pulling together in times of trouble” (tongzhou gongji), COSCO SHIPPING officially released the “Sailing Together” responsibility brand. This concept not only embodies the spiritual qualities of COSCO SHIPPING but also condenses its profound understanding and long-standing practice of the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind. COSCO SHIPPING has always persisted in working together with global customers, partners, and stakeholders through mutual assistance and watchful support, jointly embarking on a long-term future of sustainable development.

Launching the “1+N+M” Sustainability Reporting System

To support the implementation of its responsibility brand, COSCO SHIPPING has coordinated the construction of a hierarchical, comprehensive, and multi-dimensional “1+N+M” sustainability reporting system, presenting a holistic and systematic view of the Group’s practices and achievements in fulfilling responsibilities across all dimensions.

The “1” refers to the annual comprehensive sustainability report. It covers the Group’s full-spectrum responsible practices, including its overall strategic plan, green development, overseas social commitment, employee care, public welfare and charity, and supply chain governance. It serves as the annual comprehensive report on responsibility fulfillment submitted by COSCO SHIPPING to society. This year, the Group’s main report was rigorously reviewed by the Chinese Expert Committee of CSR Report Rating and was awarded a “Five-Star” rating for excellence.

The “N” refers to sustainability reports in multiple specialized fields. These focused reports showcase COSCO SHIPPING’s firm actions in implementing the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, collaborating globally to address climate change, ensuring the stability of global trade, and jointly building overseas livelihoods. They clearly convey the Group’s determination to promote global sustainable development and practice the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind. This year, COSCO SHIPPING simultaneously released the 2025 Green Development Report and its first overseas social responsibility report.

The “M” refers to sustainability and social responsibility reports by subsidiaries at all levels domestically and internationally. For the year 2025, a total of 24 domestic and overseas secondary subsidiaries independently compiled and published 33 reports.

Launch of “Captain Panda: Guardian of Homeland” Public Welfare Initiative

At the conference, COSCO SHIPPING and the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda jointly released the “Captain Panda: Guardian of Homeland” public welfare initiative. Through the COSCO SHIPPING Charity Foundation, COSCO SHIPPING donated funds to the Center to support giant panda protection and research projects. Meanwhile, by donating customized enrichment facilities, creating platforms for science popularization, and leveraging its global network to disseminate ecological concepts, the company is providing comprehensive assistance for the protection of giant panda habitats and for scientific research and public education.

It is reported that this collaboration will focus on two key areas of research: first, giant panda wild training and rewilding research, which involves helping artificially bred giant pandas learn to survive in the wild and truly integrate into the family of wild giant pandas; second, giant panda healing power research, which involves studying the characteristics of giant pandas’ human‑mental‑healing attributes and attempting to apply this healing power to practical settings such as schools, workplaces, and hospitals.

This public welfare collaboration marks another focus by COSCO SHIPPING on giant panda protection following the giant panda care donation project for pandas in Finland in 2021, allowing “Captain Panda” to join hands with the national treasure giant panda to jointly protect a beautiful home of green mountains and clear waters. Previously, the first batch of customized enrichment facilities donated by COSCO SHIPPING arrived at the Ya’an Base, a subsidiary of the Panda Center, in early August. Prototyped after the new generation of 24,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ships designed and built by COSCO SHIPPING—which are world-leading—these ship-shaped enrichment facilities were customized specifically for giant pandas.

To close the event, the theme song of COSCO SHIPPING’s responsibility brand, “Sailing Together,” was officially released.
