On March 5, Hong Kong’s maritime industry reached a significant milestone in its green transformation. SINOBUNKER, a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING, in collaboration with Sinopec Hong Kong and China Merchants Ro-Ro, successfully completed Hong Kong’s inaugural green methanol bunkering operation. This event signifies Hong Kong’s official entry into a new era of green alternative fuel bunkering.
This operation represents the first anchorage-based green methanol bunkering in China. The mission was executed by the “Daqing 268”, China’s first methanol dual-fuel oil and chemical bunker vessel, independently operated by SINOBUNKER. The operation demonstrated the synergistic capabilities of Sinopec and COSCO SHIPPING, aligning fully with the strategic planning of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government and laying a solid foundation for the future normalization of green methanol bunkering services between the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao.

Technologically advanced with autonomous and controllable equipment, the “Daqing 268” features a core power system that is 100% domestically produced, utilizing a dual-fuel system capable of running on both methanol and conventional fuel. Measuring 109.9 meters in length with a deadweight tonnage of 7,500 tons and a total tank capacity of 10,362 cubic meters, the vessel is capable of transporting and bunkering a variety of clean energy products, including methanol, biodiesel, and fuel oil. Designed to meet multi-batch and multi-standard bunkering requirements, the vessel holds legal operating qualifications for Hong Kong and Macao routes, serving as a vital link for green maritime services across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
