Recently, the Shanghai Ship and Shipping Research Institute (SSSRI) of COSCO SHIPPING officially signed a cooperation agreement at the Posidonia 2026 International Shipping Exhibition with Lloyd’s Register (LR), marking the joint launch of the “Study on European Feeder Network Deployment and New Energy Power Adaptability” project.
This study aims to provide targeted technical support for the low-carbon transition of European feeder shipping, helping the regional shipping industry achieve green compliance and high-quality development. Led by SSSRI, the project is jointly conducted by Lloyd’s Register, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and COSCO SHIPPING (U.K.). It will focus closely on the core demands of green upgrading and compliance development in European feeder services, address key challenges in the low-carbon transition, and fully integrate the four parties' advantages in resources, technological accumulation, and operations, striving to overcome bottlenecks encountered in the green development of feeder shipping.
The parties will focus on key areas such as validation of zero-carbon shipping technologies, research on industry standards and regulations, transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements, and the construction of green demonstration scenarios to carry out joint R&D, striving to create an implementable, replicable, and scalable benchmark solution for zero-carbon European feeder shipping.
