On October 19, 2025, the “2025 North Bund Forum” opening ceremony and International Green Shipping and Aviation Main Forum were held in the North Bund, Hongkou District of Shanghai. In the afternoon, COSCO SHIPPING and Shanghai International Port Group co-hosted the “2025 North Bund International Shipping Forum,” with over 400 representatives from key stakeholders in the international shipping industry attending the event.

The forum convenes global wisdom and strength under the theme “Collaborating for Sustainable Global Shipping & Aviation”. Through in-depth discussions and practical cooperation, it jointly addresses industry challenges and leads the global shipping industry toward a more stable, green, intelligent, and sustainable future.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Wan Min, President of China Shipowners’ Association (CSA) and Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING, delivered a keynote speech titled “Strengthening Global Innovation Cooperation Toward a New Green Shipping Ecosystem.” He noted that the Chinese shipping industry has consistently adhered to the principle of openness and cooperation, achieving solid progress in its green transformation. This progress is reflected in three key areas: first, maintaining an end-to-end whole-chain transportation model and accelerating the green transformation of the shipping industry; second, upholding technological innovation as a driver to speed up the research and development of green-energy-fueled vessels; third, committing to the advancement of sustainable fuels and expediting the establishment of a maritime green energy system.

Mr. Wan Min put forward three proposals on behalf of CSA: first, to jointly deliberate on regulations to foster a fair and efficient green regulatory environment; second, to share resources in building a resilient and sustainable green supply chain system; and third, to collaborate on innovation to cultivate a digitally integrated green development ecosystem. CSA will work with all stakeholders to jointly establish a “fair, open, inclusive, and win-win” new green shipping ecosystem and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future for the shipping industry.

30 Major Cooperations Released at the Forum

At the “Service Innovation · Era of Digitalization” achievement release session, Mr. Sun Yunfei, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of COSCO SHIPPING, announced the inception of the “International Maritime Future Innovation Center”, which will be jointly established by COSCO SHIPPING, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Lloyd’s Register, and the University of Southampton. The Center focuses on green, low-carbon, and intelligent technologies, drives innovation across the entire shipping industrial chain, explores new pathways for green collaborative development, and builds a new ecosystem for international innovation cooperation. Additionally, the China Classification Society and COSCO SHIPPING jointly released the “Digital Ship White Paper,” proposing for the first time the concept of “digital ship” and laying a digital foundation for the full lifecycle digital management of vessels. COSCO SHIPPING Captive Insurance, China Property & Casualty Reinsurance Company, the China Shipowners Mutual Assurance Association, and COSCO SHIPPING Technology jointly launched the “Global Ship Insurance Digital Platform,” leveraging artificial intelligence to pioneer an intelligent, full-cycle risk management model for ship insurance.

At the “Green Corridor · Connecting the World” achievement release session, COSCO SHIPPING Lines, Maersk, and CMA CGM deployed vessels with full lifecycle carbon reduction capabilities on the green shipping corridor connecting Shanghai Port and the Ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach. This marks the successful completion of the first-phase milestone of the “Shanghai–Los Angeles/Long Beach Green Shipping Corridor” initiative.

Mr. Lin Ji and Mr. Li Wei, Executive Vice Presidents of COSCO SHIPPING, were invited to attend the opening ceremony.

At the “2025 North Bund International Shipping Forum” held that afternoon, Mr. Wan Min delivered a speech titled “Developing New Quality Productive Forces in Shipping Amid Global Transformations”. He stated that the Forum has been successfully held for the fifth consecutive year, jointly witnessing the remarkable journey of the shipping industry in seizing new opportunities amid changes and creating new opportunities amid challenges. In the face of new changes and challenges, high-quality development in the shipping industry can only be achieved through revolutionary breakthroughs in technology, innovative allocation of production factors, and in-depth transformation and upgrading of the industry. Based on recent practices, COSCO SHIPPING has proposed six pathways for developing new quality productive forces in the shipping industry and building a new type of industry relationship and cooperation ecosystem: always strengthening the synergy of the industrial chain and supply chain to jointly build a “resilient” new global service system; promoting data interconnection and sharing to create a “digital” new shipping ecosystem; deepening the integration of AI and shipping to create a new “intelligent” shipping model; promoting the deepened integration of green energy and shipping to build a “green” new system; adapting to the requirements of new quality productive forces to jointly cultivate “high-end” talent; and jointly promoting the improvement of global rules to advance “inclusive” global shipping governance. Finally, he stated that COSCO SHIPPING is willing to work with global partners to promote cooperation through openness, seek development through innovation, and jointly cultivate new quality productive forces in the shipping industry. This will contribute to China’s maritime strength in ensuring the security and stability of the global industrial and supply chains and in promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Mr. Li Wei, Executive Vice President of COSCO SHIPPING, presented two of the company’s key achievements in digital innovation and green transformation: “Shipping Infrastructure for the AI Era: The Hi-Dolphin Large Model for Shipping” and “The Methanol Dual-Fuel Conversion Project of the Vessel ‘COSCO SHIPPING LIBRA’.”

[Shipping Infrastructure for the AI Era: The Hi-Dolphin Large Model for Shipping] As the first vertical-domain large language model in the shipping industry, it provides core support for the industry’s digital transformation. This not only demonstrates a technological breakthrough but also empowers industry practitioners to jointly explore new avenues for intelligent development.

[The Methanol Dual-Fuel Conversion Project of the Vessel ‘COSCO SHIPPING LIBRA’] This project represents the world’s first conversion of a traditional large container ship to a methanol dual-fuel system. It provides a replicable “Chinese solution” for the low-carbon transformation of the shipping industry and significantly enhances China’s technological innovation capabilities and international competitiveness in the green ship conversion sector.
