On the afternoon of November 6, COSCO SHIPPING held the promotion event themed “From Chancay to Shanghai: Cooperation and Development of the New Asia-Latin America Land-Sea Corridor in the New Era”, as one of the side events of the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE). Clients and partners from various sectors, including government and business, shipping and logistics, advanced manufacturing, and fintech jointly witnessed this significant moment marking the first anniversary of Chancay Port’s inauguration and looked toward the future of the New Asia-Latin America Land-Sea Corridor.

This 8th CIIE coincided with the first anniversary of the inauguration of COSCO SHIPPING’s Chancay Port in Peru. In November 2024, the presidents of China and Peru jointly announced the opening of Chancay Port, witnessing the establishment of the New Asia-Latin America Land-Sea Corridor. This year, COSCO SHIPPING has fully implemented President Xi’s directive to “ensure that the Chancay Port is successfully built, managed and operated, and improve its shipment capacity and overall service quality. ” As a result, Chancay Port has achieved a milestone development, progressing from its inauguration and efficient trial operation to full commercial operation. The New Asia-Latin America Land-Sea Corridor, centered on Chancay Port, now has 3 trunk lines and 4 feeders in operation. The import and export trade volume between Chancay and Shanghai has shown an exponential growth, accelerating the two-way circulation of goods and promoting the facilitation of global trade.

Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce of China, Sheng Qiuping; Vice Minister of the Ministry of Transport of China, Xu Chengguang; Vice Mayor of Shanghai, Zhang Xiaohong; Consul General of Peru in Shanghai, David Gamarra;  Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING, Wan Min; Director General of Shanghai Customs District, Wang Wei; President of The Rural Development Agency of Colombia, César Pachón Achury; First Vice President of ADEX of Peru, Rafael del Campo; and Vice President of XCMG, Jiang Mingzhong, among others, delivered speeches at the promotion meeting.

In his speech, Chairman Wan Min of COSCO SHIPPING stated that since its inauguration one year ago, Chancay Port has fully entered an efficient operational stage. COSCO SHIPPING has resolutely implemented the bilateral cooperation consensus and has made every effort to build and operate the port. With Chancay Port as the hub, it has constructed the New Asia-Latin America Land-Sea Corridor; provided end-to-end full-chain services to facilitate the deepening of Asia-Latin America trade cooperation; adhered to innovation-driven development, building a new ecosystem of digital, intelligent, and green supply chains; and committed to integrating into local economic development, creating a new bond of mutual benefit between China and Peru as well as Asia and Latin America. Standing at this new starting point of the port’s first anniversary, COSCO SHIPPING will work together with all partners to jointly build, manage, and operate Chancay Port effectively, helping to promote economic cooperation between Asia and Latin America and the continuous development of the Latin American region, and striving to make greater contributions to the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

At the promotion event, COSCO SHIPPING and its affiliated enterprises signed five cooperation projects with China Certification & Inspection Group, Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) and its smart system management platform NIZE Technology, SAIC Motor and its intelligent driving platform UTOPILOT, Camposol, LONGi Green Energy Technology, and Chery International. The projects included the “Letter of intent for Cooperation on Facilitating the Market Entry of Peruvian Agricultural Products Minerals, and Fishmeal into China through Pre-inspection,” the “Tripartite MoU on Deepening Cooperation for the Smart Port Development of Chancay,” the “Letter of Intent for Cooperation on Pre-inspection and Traceability of Peruvian Fruits to Chinese Homes,” the “Letter of Intent for Cooperation on Leveraging Chancay Port as a Hub to Facilitate Market Access sof Chinese Photovoltaic Products in South America,” and the “Letter of Intent for Cooperation on Chancay Port’s Automotive Supply Chain.” These five cooperation projects jointly establish a new model of cooperation and development.
