On the evening of June 24 local time, “YUAN HAI KOU”, the world’s largest Solar & LNG dual-fuel vehicle carrier by COSCO SHIPPING successfully completed itsmaiden voyage to the Mediterranean port of Piraeusand arrived at the port’s Ro-Ro terminal. Carryingaround 4,000 Chinese-branded new energy vehicles, the vessel set sail from Guangzhou Port and Xiamen Port in late May 2025. After approximately 30 days at sea, it finally arrived at Piraeus Port by way of the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
A landmark welcoming ceremony was held at the port of Piraeus. The ceremony was witnessed by more than 200 guests, including Chinese Ambassador to Greece Mr. FANG Qiu, Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy of Greece Mr. Stefanos GKIKAS, Deputy Governor of the Attica Region Ms. Stavroula ANTONAKOU, the PPA CEO Mr. SU Xudong, Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING Specialized CarriersMr. ZHANG Wei, President of the International Maritime Union in Greece Mr. AntonisVENIERIS, and representatives from Chinese and European automakers.
The ceremony was featured by a cultural and technological spectacle presented through light shows combined with traditional drum and music performances. Takingthe Port of Piraeus as a strategic hub, the voyage of“YUAN HAI KOU”symbolically bridging the ancient Silk Road with the modern green shipping trade civilization. Leveraging digital intelligence and green technologies, the vessel also offers a replicable Chinese solution for the global shipping industry’s low-carbon transformation. This initiative is reaffirming Piraeus Port’s role as a key logistics hub in the China-Europe supply chain and will drive the port towards a greener and more sustainable future.
“YUAN HAI KOU” is invested and operated by Guangzhou Yuanhai Auto Carrier, a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Specialized. Stretching 199.9 meters in length with a gross tonnage of 68,252 tons and a displacement of 39,069 tons, “YUAN HAI KOU” is equipped with 12 car decks (4 of which are adjustable) and designed to accommodate a diverse array of vehicles, including commercial trucks, engineering machinery, buses, and MAFI cargo.
