On September 15, 2025, the signing ceremony of the cooperation memorandum between COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers and Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute was held onsite at the Tanzania Port Authority. Mr. Zhu Binxin, Director of the Board and President of COSCO SHIPPING, and Professor Godius Kahyarara, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport of Tanzania, jointly witnessed the signing of the MoU. Mr. Huang Nan, Director and President of COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers, and Professor Tumaini S. Gurumo, President of Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute, signed the memorandum on behalf of both parties. Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute also presented a commemorative plaque to COSCO SHIPPING in recognition of its support in this collaboration of Maritime Training and Career Development.
According to the MoU, COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers will leverage its extensive fleet resources and mature experiences in international shipping operation and management to provide maritime internships, practical onboard training sessions, and career development support for Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute students. It will also offer training sessions for current seafarers, helping Tanzania to cultivate maritime professionals with international perspectives as well as practical expertise.
This collaboration not only marks a concrete implementation of the consensus reached between the Tanzanian Minister of Transport and COSCO SHIPPING during his visit to China in 2024, but also demonstrates COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers’ proactive use of its professional strengths to advance ESG principles and fulfill social responsibilities through talent cultivation. It has added new dimensions to the China-Tanzania Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the maritime sector. Moving forward, guided by the MoU, both parties will use talent co-education as a cornerstone to further integrate resources, expand areas of cooperation, and jointly support the advancement of the sustainable development of the shipping industry in Tanzania and the East African region.
