In Boffa, Guinea, on April 24, the basketball court beside the government building was a hive of activity.
COSCO SHIPPING was hosting the 2025 Fishing Village Donation Ceremony here. Zhang Yong, Executive Vice President of COSCO SHIPPING, presented the donated items to Mohamed Toure, the Secretary-General of the Boffa Provincial Government. This time, COSCO SHIPPING donated a total of 24 fishing boats, 24 engines, and various fishing gear, including nets, buoys, and ropes, to 24 fishing villages in the Central Fishing Port. These contributions aim to enhance the fishermen’s production capacity and lead them to a more prosperous life.
During his speech at the event, Zhang reviewed the five-year development journey of Yick Fung Shipping in Boffa. He expressed sincere gratitude to the local government, community, and fishermen for their unwavering support. He highlighted that the donation of fishing boats and other essential supplies is imbued with COSCO SHIPPING’s deep affection for the people of Guinea and is filled with good wishes. COSCO SHIPPING and Yick Fung Shipping will continue to adhere to the philosophy of balancing moral integrity with business interests, placing ethical considerations before financial gains in all decision-making processes, and contribute to the high-quality and sustainable development of Guinea.
At the donation ceremony, residents of the community enthusiastically presented scarves featuring traditional cultural symbols of both China and Guinea, along with gourds filled with rice and kola nuts. These gestures conveyed their heartfelt gratitude and best wishes.
Idrissa Bangoura, the director of Boffa Central Fishing Port, expressed, “As generations of fishermen who have relied on the sea for our livelihood, we deeply understand the significance of a fishing boat and a net to both our families and our community. Today, COSCO SHIPPING has delivered fishing boats, gear, and engines to us. This support is not only vital for our daily lives but also a profound expression of trust and a beacon of hope. These resources will ensure our security and bring light and warmth to our families.”
Since its establishment in Guinea over five years ago, Yick Fung Shipping, a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Bulk, has steadfastly upheld the principle of “joint consultation, co-construction, and shared benefits.” The company has created more than 500 local jobs and conducted over 30 donation activities, contributing more than 2 million yuan in total.
