On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United Arab Emirates, a grand event unfolded in Abu Dhabi. The Management Committee of Yangpu Economic Development Zone, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Ports Group, CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal, and Hainan Harbor & Shipping International Port Co., Ltd., embarked on a new chapter of cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in order to accelerate the connectivity between sister ports of Yangpu Port and Abu Dhabi Terminal. This initiative aims to elevate the status of both ports as pivotal regional hubs, thereby significantly bolstering bilateral and regional economic and trade interactions between China and UAE.

The signing ceremony took place concurrently in Abu Dhabi of UAE and Haikou, Hainan Province, China. Esteemed dignitaries graced the occasion with their presence: Mr. Feng Fei, the Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial People’s Congress; Mr. Liu Xiaoming, Deputy Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Hainan Province; Mr. Wan Min, Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING; Mr. Zhang Yiming, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the UAE; alongside other distinguished Chinese representatives. On the UAE side, Mr. Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, led the delegation.

Abu Dhabi Port and Yangpu Port stand as the most important hubs of COSCO SHIPPING’s operations in the Asia-Pacific region. COSCO SHIPPING has adopted an integrated approach encompassing “investment, construction, and operation” at these ports. This strategy has not only given rise to modern maritime facilities but also facilitated the establishment of cutting-edge integrated logistics parks. These developments aim to form a new generation of digital, intelligent, and green free trade ports, thereby offering customers comprehensive “end-to-end” digital supply chain solutions and services.

Currently, COSCO SHIPPING has 43 routes calling at Yangpu International Container Terminal and 20 routes at Abu Dhabi Terminal. This April, Yangpu-Abu Dhabi direct route was officially launched, weaving a dense web of shipping routes to facilitate seamless connectivity between sister ports and the global shipping network.
