On August 25, at the request of the China Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (China MRCC), the Guangdong Provincial Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (Guangdong MRCC) awarded the National Maritime Rescue Award to the vessels "Yuan Fu Hai" and "Ming De" which are operated by COSCO SHIPPING Bulk. They also held a meeting to discuss the vessels’ involvement in the search and rescue operation for the ship "Lu Pengyuan Fishery 028" on May 16.
On May 16 at around 3:00 a.m., the Chinese deep sea fishing vessel "Lu Pengyuan Fishery 028" went missing in the central Indian Ocean with 39 Chinese and foreign crew members in distress. "Yuan Fu Hai" and "Ming De" followed the instructions of the China MRCC and sailed to the scene to participate in the search and rescue operations.
During the operation, the two ships worked together and played a crucial role in coordinating on-site activities and conducting surface searches.
During the incident, "Yuan Fu Hai" was the first to reach the scene and took charge as the on-site commanding vessel, while "Ming De" discovered the body of a missing crew member. This showcased the positive role of social forces in maritime search and rescue operations, and how ships fulfilled their commitment to prioritizing people and their lives through concrete actions.
During the meeting, representatives from the China MRCC and Guangdong Provincial MRCC expressed their gratitude to COSCO SHIPPING Bulk for their valuable contributions in the operations.
They highly praised the efforts of "Yuan Fu Hai" and "Ming De" for exemplifying the principle of "protecting the sea and prioritizing people’s well-being", thus demonstrating China's exceptional emergency response capabilities in the maritime domain.
