From June 7 to 10, a Shanghai municipal delegation headed by Mr. Ying Yong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Mayor of Shanghai, paid a visit to Turkey. During the visit, Ying inspected the Kumport Terminal of COSCO SHIPPIPNG in Turkey and boarded COSCO SHIPPING RHINE berthing at the terminal.

Capt. Xu Lirong, Chairman and Party Secretary of COSCO SHIPPING, Mr. Cui Wei, Chinese Consul General in Istanbul, Mr. Zhang Wei, Managing Director of COSCO SHIPPING Ports and Mr. Lin Ji, President of COSCO shipping (Europe) accompanied the visit.

At the Kumport Terminal, Ying Yong learned about the overseas development of COSCO SHIPPING and its involvement in the Belt and Road Initiative, and greed the Chinese and foreign managers of COSCO SHIPPING in Istanbul.

Ying Yong said while serving the national strategy, COSCO SHIPPING has also optimized its resources allocation. Being home to the world’s largest port operator and shipping company, Shanghai should make full use of its resource advantage to promote companies to go global, and better play its role as a bridgehead in Belt and Road construction.

In 2015, COSCO SHIPPING acquired the Kumport Terminal, which has maintained good operation so far. Kumport is the third-largest container terminal in Turkey. As a portal to the Black Sea, Kumport has two container berths and is the only terminal able to accommodate 18,000 TEU containerships in the Ambali port area. By the end of 2017, its handling capacity was 2.1 million TEU. In addition, the terminal owns four multi-functional berths for handling containers, bulk cargo and ro-ro cargo. As the only terminal with a logistics center in Ambali, it offers customers with value-added services ranging from warehousing, unstuffing,LCL to container cleaning and maintenance. In 2017, Kumport’s container throughput registered a year-on-year increase of 60% to 1.06 million TEU, with significantly higher  revenue and net profits.
